Fleuron Rouge 2017 Winter Hafla
[DANCE] Hafla is an Arabic term that means “get-together,” and innovative belly-dancing troupe Fleuron Rouge has made this shindig an annual Babeville tradition now for several years running. This year they’re joined by the ladies of Femme Noir and their special brand of fusion-burlesque, which pulls from jazz and hip-hop. The combined effect is bound to heat up a chilly Buffalo night, so don’t miss out of the hypnotic hip movement, Saturday, January 7 at Babeville’s Asbury Hall.
Wren Williams and the Sons of Luther
[INDIE] You might recognize Wren Williams as the bassist that plays with the Leones. Venom & Sugar is the title of his solo debut, which beings him to Babeville’s 9th Ward on Friday, January 6, with a backing band (Sons of Luther) comprising cousins. Also on hand will be newly minted local “supergroup” honey COMA and the female-fronted quartet Cooler, both of which are supporting new EPs.
Mom Said No with August Winters
[POP] Headlining locals Mom Said No are playing out to support their debut EP, Motivation, which was recorded at Goo Goo Dolls bassist Robby Takac’s GCR Audio studio and showcases some impressive pop chops from a group of guys barely out of high school.
Nylon Otters, Dead Languages, Carpet Room, and Good Grief
[ROCK] Dreamland showcases some talented indie rock acts this Saturday. Known to give some of the most impactful and intimate performances, grunge rock trio Nylon Otters delivers woozy lyrics and raspy vocals on songs like their demo ”Down-Drained.” The relatively young band stands out with a distinct rawness and nostalgic appeal of lo-fi garage tunes. Also sharing the stage is folksy band Dead Languages.

School Board Votes 6-2 to Seek Paladino's Ouster
The Buffalo Board of Education held a special meeting Thursday afternoon to take up a resolution seeking Carl Paladino’s resignation from the board, and his removal by the state Education Department should he refuse. The resolution, which was introduced by its author, new board member Hope Jay, passed 6 — 2; Paladino was not present.

Letter: Paladino "Astonishingly Vicious and Bitter"
I have been acquainted with Carl Paladino for 30 years. We are not friends, but we have mutual acquaintances, and have crossed swords publicly over a few (purely local) issues.
I was disturbed yesterday when a respected friend of mine, an Egyptian-American living in New York, sent me a link to an article detailing Carl’s latest comments in Artvoice about the Obamas. He was shocked by Carl’s comments, and wanted to know if I knew this man. Regrettably, I had to say yes, disturbed that Carl was once again representing Buffalo on the national stage.

Merry Carlmas
‘Twas two days before Christmas, when all over Twitter,
Carl’s awful “wish list” left people embittered.
He ignored all the stockings and chimneys and such,
instead listed things that he hated, so much.

The Buffalo Schools' Patriotic Committee
Buffalo School Board member noticed pictures of President Obama during visits to public schools. These pictures were placed independently by teachers and principals for educational purposes. Paladino, however, decided he would introduce a resolution which, if passed, would amount to the school board mandating the placement of portraits of Great Leader Trump in every school.
