Having undergone some game-changing lineup shifts since their 2007 inception, the indie-folk-pop ensemble is coming to Babeville’s 9th Ward in support of a self-titled new full length.
[JAM] The Buffalo-based psychedelic jam band Intrepid Travelers return home from a cross-country tour for a show at Nietzsche’s on Saturday, September 17. Their 2016 summer tour took the four-piece band, Brain Calisto, Jon Fohl, David Meimanis, and Donny Frauenhofer, from Ithica, New York, to Denver Colorado, Ann Arbor, Michigan, and many places in between. On Saturday, they’ll be joined by Pittsburgh’s The Clock Reads, and Rochester’s Haewa.
[POP] Grace Potter was known as the frontwoman of the roots-rock outfit The Nocturnals before she pursued a solo career in 2015. Her penchant for experimentation rings loud and clear on her latest album, 2015’s Midnight. Midnight finds Potter’s pliable vocals awash in shiny pop-rock garb. This week we spoke with Potter about the album, what it’s been like stepping away from The Nocturnals, and more in anticipation of her show at the Rapids Theatre on Tuesday, September 20.

A century ago, Irish, Italian, and Polish immigrants weren’t considered white or American, as they are today. It took generations for these immigrants to assimilate, and scholars have written extensively about the economic and social interventions that occurred to hasten these immigrant groups’ acceptance by white America as part of white America. The ethnic and racial slurs against these immigrants still exist in our vernacular.
This isn’t about Democratic factionalism anymore. Every responsible candidate with a (D) after her name wants nothing to do with Steve Pigeon and his ragtag band of upturned palmed ne’er-do-wells. In the race for District Attorney, someone has the chutzpah to accuse John Flynn of Pigeon ties, while Michael Flaherty’s campaign is literally run by Pigeon stalwarts.
