[METAL] The satirical heavy metal band GWAR makes their yearly return to Buffalo for a show at the Town Ballroom on Sunday, September 18. Despite the death of lead singer David Brockie a.k.a. Oderus Urungus in 2014 the band has continued on, re-recruiting former bassist Michael Bishop a.k.a. Blothar as lead vocalist. Of course that’s not the only change the band has made in their 32-years as a band—their list of former members runs into the dozens—but the band’s over-the-top live show is still just as much of a spectacle, complete with gratuitous violence and blood splatter. The blood splatter leaks sonically into their recordings as well—highlights include their 1990 album Scumdogs of the Universe, 1992’s America Must Be Destroyed, 2006’s Beyond Hell, and their latest, 2013’s Battle Maximus. But of course, GWAR exists to perform live, and that’s what they’ll do this Sunday with special guests Crowbar.
