[FUNK] Any act that’s sustained an entertainment career for more than 60 years (yup, you read that right) is bound to have had some ups and downs. In the case of Ohio’s Isley Brothers, it’s been a bumpier ride than average. But that hasn’t stopped original founding member Ronald Isley and younger brother Ernie from carrying on the family name with a road show that pulls into the Seneca Niagara Casino on Saturday, March 11.
[COMEDY] The mind behind Mind of Mencia, comedian Carlos Mencia, comes to Helium Comedy Club for a set of shows this weekend. Though Mind of Mencia had a relatively short run on Comedy Central, the show has since become a cult favorite among comedy fans. The show featured many veteran and up-and-coming comedians, pop culture personalities, as well as musicians.
[INDIE] Elevating their piano-driven music with splashes of red, yellow, and blue, come experience Pocket Vinyl this Friday, March 10 at Sugar City. Forming in 2010, this married pair from Connecticut takes DIY to a new level. Wife Elizabeth paints while husband Eric plays the piano; they sell the freshly created paintings to the highest bidder. Currently on their Stick Together and We’ll Be Alright tour, the duo’s act is made more interesting by their “mini-plays” and playful antics.
[ELECTRONICA] Formed in the stylish music scene of Atlanta, duo Modern Measure puts their twist on electronic music with live instruments artfully crafted to create memorable performances. Incorporating trap, funk, and hip hop, the collective has shared the stage with renowned artists like the Floozies, Big Gigantic, and the Disco Biscuits, and they keep pushing the bar, releasing more material and remixes.
[ELECTRONIC/DANCE] If they weren’t the headlining act, the bouncers wouldn’t let the guys from Louis the Child into the club. The successful DJ duo from Chicago, formed in 2013, are not old enough to order an adult beverage from the bar, though that doesn’t stop them from drawing thousands of electronic dance music fans to their sold-out shows across the country. Though they’re young, that doesn’t preclude Robert Hauldren and Frederic Kennett from masterfully crafting catchy, sleek electronic pop tunes—you’ve probably heard their hit “It’s Strange,” which features K.

Luckily, the Buffalo News’ Rod Watson wrote this opinion column, so I don’t have to. Watson succinctly spells out why and how Collins’ refusal to meet with constituents in a town hall, (or other setting), is disgraceful and cowardly. In a nutshell: Collins works for us, but he doesn’t see it that way.
