This Saturday at 9am, Buffalonians willing to spend their Saturday helping our friends in South Buffalo relieve themselves of over 6 feet of snow are encouraged to gather at the Old First Ward Community Center (62 Republic Street) where the coffee will be hot, Mazurek’s Donuts will be plentiful, and the city of good neighbor spirit will be in full effect. The goal? Dig out South Buffalo and help those in need that are buried in the south towns.
Four Questions with Pepper Bassist, Bret Bollinger
Pepper is a three piece rock band from Hawaii that specializes in reggae juxtaposed with stylistic comedic punk influences. They will play the Rapid’s Theater on Niagara Falls on Friday, November 28, their first appearance in the Western New York region. This week we had a quick chat with bassist Bret Bollinger.

If you’re thinking about checking out The Lubberland National Dance Company’s presentation of Bombing Instead of Negotiating tonight at 8pm at the Foundry but were unsure whether the show would still go on, don’t worry; the performance is going on as scheduled. The dance performance, a Bread & Puppet production, will act as a revolt against what they call “unbearable news of circumstance,” such as the latest assault on the middle east by the U.S. and Canada.

Cursive, a band that damn near invented emo music, will be coming through Mohawk Place on Sunday, March 15.
The band from Omaha, Nebraska popularized their brand of emotional post-hardcore with albums like 2000’s Domestica and 2003’s The Ugly Organ. Their last album was 2012’s I Am Gemini, but the band will be on tour this spring in support of the deluxe reissue of The Ugly Organ.
It’s not easy to get around Buffalo right now because of this ridiculous amount of snow (though The Public did deliver 35,000 copies of our paper to the streets this morning). Some areas are worse than others, but a few national bands are finding out that out the hard way.

There are two major thematic currents working their way through Arthur Miller’s landmark mid-twentieth-century play Death of a Salesman, the playwright’s most famous work. It works on at least two levels, or, perhaps comes at us from two directions. There are moments and scenes in which these two dynamics seem to coexist or interact awkwardly. The Irish Classical Theatre Company’s generally admirable current production of the play can feel as if it’s reflecting this uneasy balance.
