Del Toro Dissects The Devils

There are still tickets available for a once-in-a-lifetime event in Toronto, filmmaker Guillermo del Toro holding a master class on Ken Russell’s berserk masterpiece The Devils. Del Toro, of course, is the creator of such genre-bending films as Pan’s Labyrinth, The Devil’s Backbone, Hellboy and Pacific Rim, as well as a collaborator on Peter Jackson’s Hobbit series, the finale of which opens on December 17. He will give an extended introduction and lead a post-screening discussion of the 1971 film set in 17th-century France starring Oliver Reed as a priest who becomes the object of a literal witch hunt when a mad nun (Vanessa Redgrave) accuses him of being a sorcerer.  The Devils was infamous for being severely cut before American release; the restored version available in England has never been released to the US on DVD or Blu-ray.

The master class will be held at the TIFF Bell Light Box on 7 pm on Monday, November 24. Click here for ticket information.
