Don Keller's Nosferatu at GCR Recording Studios.

First Friday

[ART] No better time to take a survey of local art spaces—large, small, and tiny—than on First Friday, and this installment brings some falling leaves, monsters, and fairy-tales. A dual opening can be found at the neighboring Art Dialogue and Artists Group Gallery featuring the Buffalo Society of Artists’ 122nd Annual Catalogue Exhibition and Fred Fielding’s pastel paintings. Heading down Franklin, our ghoulish interests are piqued by Don Keller’s Images of gothic horror, complete with a live studio recording session with Night Slaves, featuring John Toohill and David Kane, at GCR Audio Recording Studios. Sticking in Allentown, there’s no way we would miss Stephanie Rothenberg’s opening at El Museo. Rotherberg’s deeply conceptual work always challenges the lines separating art from other subjects and the deeper underpinings of technology, ecology, and human interaction. Further north, Skylar Borgstrom’s Pretty Ugly, opening at the Argus Gallery, is worth checking in on. For addresses of the galleries as well as other spaces with open hours on Friday, check out our In Galleries Now section.
