Shonen Knife
[PUNK] The Japanese trio is coming to Mohawk Place this Friday night, November 4 to serve, if you can believe it, a healthy dose of pure and happy sounding punk magic. The ladies are all pros by now—after 25 years of touring and singing about the wonderful and simple things in life, primarily cookies, cats, ramen and wasabi, the three women band has gotten the intricacies of appealing to an international fanbase and acknowledging pop culture’s cat hysteria down to a T. Their latest album, Adventure, was recorded in Osaka last year and leadwoman Naoko describes the album as “passing through the 70s.” Think Blue Oyster Cult, The Ramones and/or The Runaways. Back in the 1990s, Shonen Knife toured with Nirvana on the Nevermind tour and were paid homage to by alt-rock gods Sonic Youth, who covered a few of their songs. Mohawk Place will also be graced by Buffalo’s punk quartet Trinket, the brotherly duo Green Slime and pop punk favorites, Stress Dolls.
