Frankie Ballard

[COUNTRY] Nashville, Tennessee’s Frankie Ballard has made a name for himself on the country circuit, winning the 2008 Kenny Chesney’s Next Big Star Competition and dropping his chart-topping sophomore release, Sunshine & Whiskey in 2014. On June 10, the 33-year-old country music singer/songwriter dropped his third album, El Rio on the Warner Brothers record label. The album, produced by Nashville-based producer Marshall Altman (who has also worked with pop artists such as Kate Voegele and Natasha Bedingfield, and folk-rock musicians like Matt Nathanson) takes Altman and Ballard’s Nashville flavor and adds some Texas twang to it. His latest single, “It All Started With A Beer” offered a great introduction to the carefree, bluesy country rock album. Ballard’s gritty, sandpaper voice coupled with his keen eye for instrumentation soar on tracks like “El Camino” and “Cigarette.” Catch Frankie Ballard at Canalside on Thursday, June 30The Public Choice battle of the bands winners Ten Cent Howl will open the show.
