St. Patrick's Day

[PARTY] St. Patrick’s Day is Tuesday, March 17, but, festivities here in Buffalo kick off as early as Thursday. Start your St. Patrick’s Day celebrations on Thursday, March 12 at the Tralf Music Hall for some festive, ass-shaking Celtic tunes served up by The Town Pants. The five-piece acoustic lineup hails from Canada, but their Anglo-folk, earthy sound with a fuel-injected punk rock tang is praised worldwide. They play Irish classics like “Galway Girl”, with their own nuanced, rich sound. These lads (and lassie) know their instruments well, and when they snap into high gear in campy tracks like “Shore Leave” and “Sorrow” they seethe with red-hot energy.

On Friday, March 13 is the third annual Live at O’Larkin festival in Larkin Square featuring music from McCarthyizm, Emerald Isle, Clann Na Cara School of Irish Dance, and more.

Then on Saturday, March 14, the 22nd annual Old Neighborhood St. Patrick’s Day Parade marches through the Old First Ward starting at noon.

Viewing of the parade is available along:

  • South Park Avenue (between Hamburg Street and Smith Street)
  • Smith Street (between South Park Avenue and Elk Street)
  • Elk Street (between Smith Street and South Park Avenue)
  • Hamburg Street (between South Park Avenue and O’Connell Avenue)
  • O’Connell Avenue (between Hamburg Street and Louisiana Street).

If you’re not all paraded out already, then help the United Irish American Association of Erie County celebrate its 75th anniversary with the St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Delaware Avenue at 2pm on Sunday, March 15. If you’re looking for somewhere to tailgate at before the pardade, the Waiting Room is hold a Bud Light Parade Day Tailgate Party

The place to be after the parade, of course, is Allentown. Duke’s Bohemian Grove Bar will host 16 hours of DJs—including Sike, DJ LoPro, and the Saturday Night Meltdown Crew—as well as complimentary corned beef and cabbage, and specials on Irish whiskeys and beers, while Fugazi will be open early, serving classic green Stella Artois.
