EOTO

[ELECTRONIC/DANCE] Hailing from Denver, Michael Travis and Jason Hann (members of The String Cheese Incident) conceived of EOTO (End of Time Observatory) in 2006.

Taking Back Sunday

[ROCK] Though Taking Back Sunday has proved their maturity with three great albums since they’ve reunited, we (angst-laden teens of the early 2000s) find it difficult to shake the nostalgia upon hearing their staple dynamic bridges or dual vocal styles.

Mallwalkers

[PUNK] The rudimentary punk at the core of what Mallwalkers get up to sounds like it could’ve easily emerged from the Bowery some 40 years ago: think a scrappy Talking Heads with less art-school pretense, blending its early new-wave and later funk motifs while maintaining plenty of lo-fi appeal.

Yarn

[JAM] Yarn’s central songwriter Blake Christiana might hail from Schenectady, but his six-piece string-band was formed off the streets of Brooklyn.

Hey Mavis

[ROCK] Hey Mavis’s Akron-based Americana stew just got more flavorful with the completion of What I Did—out this spring—which will surely comprise some of the set at Sportsmen’s Tavern this Friday, March 13.  The new collection pushes the trio—which expands into a five-piece for this northeastern excursion—further into genre-defying hybrids while keeping Laura Michele Caner’s supple pipes and dexterous banjo playing front and center.

The Public Presents: The Tins

[INDIE ROCK] In a few days the Tins will get into their white 2005 Ford Freestar minivan and drive approximately 1,600 miles to Austin, Texas—with a couple of videographers in tow—to play their first official SXSW showcase. This’ll happen after they put in a few more hours of studio time at GCR on their next full length record, which they’ve been recording with producer Robby Takac at the helm.
