Hospital Records Tour

[ELECTRONIC/DANCE] “The biggest thing about Hospital Records is that it’s the meeting point between light and dark. It encompasses what jungle and drum and bass is all about,” says Robert Matthews, better known as Basha, leader of Frosty Tone. Hospital Records is a drum and bass record label founded by South Londoners Chris Goss and Tony Colmon aka London Elektricity in 1996.

Young Thug

[HIP HOP] 2015 should be a big year for Young Thug. After releasing seven mixtapes since 2011 (including two on Gucci Mane’s record label, 1017, and one on Cash Money Records), the Atlanta rapper will finally drop a full length studio album with producer Metro Boomin under the alias Metro Thuggin this spring. But this is just the beginning: The 23 year old has goals that reach far beyond simply rapping. He sees himself as an emerging mogul. A future icon. “I hope to be like Bill Gates, bro…Or Michael Jackson,” he said in an interview with GQ earlier this month.

Paladino Threatens "Sisterhood"

Let’s get one thing out of the way: ”blurt” is not a noun.

What follows is the text of an email that Carl Paladino sent to four women of color; three of whom sit with him on the Buffalo School Board. The fourth is the board’s attorney.

Apollo’s Creed: Focus and Maps to the Stars

The end credits of Focus identify as a production advisor Apollo Robbins, and if you know who that is you’ll know what kind of movie you’re in for. Robbins is possibly the world’s greatest pickpocket, at least among those willing to identify themselves in public. He doesn’t steal, at least not permanently; instead he makes a living as a showman and as a security consultant, using the skills he learned from his father and brother as amplified by his own research into the workings of the human brain.

Looking Backward: Hanna Furnace

“A quick look at the monstrous blast furnaces and huge ore stockpiles of the Hanna Furnace Corp. as you speed south on Furhmann Boulevard is not apt to leave you with a sense of overpowering beauty in a physical sense, but stop and think a minute. Sure, the place is ugly, the buildings grimy, the air sooty. But look at it from the standpoint of production.” —Buffalo Courier Express, November 4, 1951
