Chris Barron

[ROCK] The Spin Doctors were perhaps the most 1990s band of the 1990s, with music videos full of colorful tints, tilted camera angles, jean shorts, and tank tops.

Superstition: Punk & Hip Hop

[PUNK/HIP HOP] Punk and hip hop (especially alternative hip hop) aren’t so different. Of course they’re sonically different, but both genres—born in the 1970s, coming to maturity in the underground in the 1980s, and mainstream in the 1990s—have shared similar attitudes; alienation and frustration, self-enlightenment and rebellion.

Zepparella

[TRIBTUE] The guys from Led Zeppelin may not be reuniting anytime soon, but that doesn’t mean you won’t get your fill. Just like the original four, but with maybe slightly more makeup, Zepparella is an all-female foursome who recreates the magic of Led Zeppelin on a nightly basis. The group has been around now for a few years and they don’t fall short in any regard.

Gray Hair Reading Series

[LITERARY] The Earth’s Daughters Gray Hair series will be presenting Lorna Hill and Trudy Stern at Hallwalls on Wednesday, March 11. Hill is a poet, playwright, teacher, and actress in addition to being the founder and Artistic Director of the Ujima Theatre Company. Hill also produced and hosted for WNED’s Uncrowned Queens: Voices of African American Women documentary comprised of three portraits of African American women community builders. Her solo performance appearances are rare and should not be missed.

Lloyd Cole

[ROCK] Though many might know him from his 1980s band Lloyd Cole and the Commotions, the english singer/songwriter has enjoyed more success as a solo act, especially in recent years.
