11 Days of Infringement: One Activity For Each Day of Infringement Festival

One activity for each day of infringement. And maybe a few back up plans too.

Thursday, July 27
Opening Ceremonies
Nietzsche’s, 248 Allen St.
This one will make the list every year. The Opening Ceremonies are your launching point for the Infringement Festival. There you’ll find artists you’re likely to see at a variety of different Infringement events, either performing or enjoying the show, so this makes for not only an entertaining and engaging show, but a great place to network. Meet friends and plan out your Infringement experience, talk to folks and find out about those hidden gems you may be over looking. This year’s Opening Ceremonies features Bobby Floyd Angel, The Seasides, Sarah Golley, The Hell’s Harlots, Jimyn, Lalalangue, Edryce Hasan, Debouch, Jay Aquarious, Flamencilla, Pam Swarts, and Truey V. The show is preceded by the 3rd Annual Opening Day Invisible Party Bus Memorial Parade featuring Bass Pro and the Waterfront Revivalists.

Friday, July 28
The Psychedelic Alien Love Orgy and Costume Ball
Nietzsche’s, 248 Allen St.
This one kinda speaks for itself. This is either your thing or it’s not. If it is your thing, get to Nietzsche’s in time to catch Circular Logic at 10pm and wear something that sticks to the bizarrely specific yet probably pretty easily achievable theme. “Alien love orgy” as a theme feels like maybe Spock and Uhura—hell, even Superman and Lois Lane technically works. If this isn’t your thing, check out Milk n’ Cookies at Milkie’s. It’s a pajama party with indie rock bands.

Saturday, July 29
Kidfringement at the Atrium
Atrium 124 Gallery, 124 Elmwood Ave.
This is for all of the kids (or kids at heart) out there. A whole afternoon worth of activites includes a poetry reading, chalk drawing, a cardboard robot battle, a drum circle, art, music, and more. Looking for ideas for Saturday night? Check out our write up on the Pipe Dragon Memorial Expo on page xx.

Sunday, July 30
BuskFest 5000 ¾
Caffe Aroma, 957 Elmwood Ave.
If it’s a Sunday Funday you’re looking for, head on over to Caffe Aroma near Bidwell Parkway for Buskfest 5000 ¾. There’s a huge line up of Buffalo busking superstars, setting up on the sidewalk of one of the Elmwood Village’s most popular corners. This will be your ideal sunny day Sunday activity. If ,God forbid, it rains, or even if it doesn’t, check out Matineé for Humaniteé at the Bird’s Nest Circus Arts—acrobatics, bike circus stuff, and a scientific presentation on “how water works.”

Monday, July 31
Main St. Monday Hostel-ities (Not Really That Hostile) Film Fest
Hostel Buffalo-Niagara, 667 Main St.
If you’ve had a big weekend and you’re looking to do something somewhat chill on Monday evening, check out the Main St. Monday Hostel-ities (Not Really That Hostile) Film Fest at the Hostel Buffalo-Niagara. The film fest features five films including maybe the highlight, Wait, a story of love, loss, and the fabric of reality. If you’re still going hard, check out Metal Monday in the attic of Mister Goodbar featuring five local metal bands.

Tuesday, Aug 1
PatRiot Tuesday
Uncle Sam’s Army Navy, 290 Larkin St.
Maybe this is the show for the conservatives in the bunch—featuring bands with names like The Fake News Project and the Major Arcana (the “trump” cards in a deck of Tarot cards). Actually, we might just be judging a book by its cover here, we don’t know anything about the political identities of these bands—they could be Commies for all we know. Anyways, they’ll take the “stage” at Uncle Sams Army Navy in between a Q&A session with some war vets. If you’re looking for something less political and likely far, far weirder, check out Don’t Go Chasing John Waterfalls at Nietzsche’s—a burlesque tribute to John Waters by the Stripteasers.

Wednesday, Aug 2
Beats and Chill Showcase
Electric Avenue, 300 Ellicott St.
It’s hump day, which means you might be cranking your chill status up to rage status at any moment. The perfect show for you: Beats and Chill Showcase at Electric Avenue. Featuring four acts—MAAPs, DJ Spruke, Mixes with Flow Ekim, and Fe’Netiks Live, you’ll get a good dose of phat beats to liven up your Wednesday. If you’re looking for a daytime activity, check out Art of the Community: Supporting Locust St. at Locust Street Art Gallery. The show will feature a combination of live performances and art stuff.

Thursday, Aug 3
Barging into the Burch
Burchfield Penney Art Center, 1300 Elmwood Ave.
One of only a few Infringement Festival events at the Burchfield Penney Art Center, Barging into the Burch is a big one. It takes place all evening in the front yard of the Burchfield Penney Art Center and features a slew of awesome musical acts including mnemosyne, Gongeranium, Little Cake, Lalalangue, The Left Hand of Darkness, Silence Your Devices, and La La Fuckaroo. If you play your cards right you can also catch most of WBNY Invades Sugar City, a live radio show broadcast from Sugar City featuring equally awesome bands such as Deadwolf and the Chronic Collective.

Friday, Aug 4
Artisan Market on Allen East
Allentown
The second weekend begins! Our recommendation, head straight from work to the Artisan Market on Allen East. They’ll have the street closed down for a mini art fair and a whole line up of bands. Highlights include Gamelan Klenengan at 6pm and Brass Pro and the Waterfront Revivalist at 7:15pm. For something that’ll go a bit later into the night, check out the Mohawk Masquerade Ball. The theme this year: Westworld.

Saturday, Aug 5
The Broadway Market Thing
Broadway Market, 999 Broadway St.
Easter in August! A one day-only Infringement Festival music invasion of the Buffalo landmark Broadway Market with three levels of music and performances throughout the day on Saturday, August 5. More than 25 local acts are on the bill compromising something of a Infringement Festival closing ceremony called The Broadway Market Thing. There’ll be music on the parking ramp, music next to the beet horseradish, music next to the macaroni and cheese and collared greens.

Sunday, Aug 6
Closing Ceremonies
Nietzsche’s, 248 Allen St.
The obvious choice here is the Closing Ceremonies party at Nietzsche’s, where they hand out semi-phony awards on paper plates to the infringiest of the Infringers. But since it’s a Sunday, you’ll have all day to infringe. May we recommend Megafringe Phase 1 and 2 located simultaneously in the Holley Farms Parking Lot and Days Park, respectively. There’ll be something like 16 acts split between the two locations, which are two blocks apart, so you can bounce back and forth.
