D.R.I.

[PUNK] If you’re tired of your punk heroes getting soft and chasing hybrids that stray from the edge you fancy, D.R.I. is your band: the only hybrid happening here is the one that crosses hardcore with thrash metal, which sharpens that edge rather than sanding it down. Formed back in gritty 1982 Houston, D.R.I. (Dirty Rotten Imbeciles) made seven albums before halting output in 1995. Since then, they’ve toured intermittently and hinted at recording new music. The Bill Metoyer-produced EP But Wait… There’s More — D.R.I.’s first new music release in 21 years — surfaced last year with five new songs that find the band sounding tip-top. Of the original members, vocalist Kurt Brecht and guitarist Spike Cassidy remain. When they play Mohawk Place on Wednesday, July 26, they’ll be joined by like-minded locals Rebel Scum and Pissing Match, as well as the Brit-punk stylings of Rochester’s Rotten (UK).
