Public Enemy
[HIP HOP] One of the most anticipated shows of Canalside’s Free Thursday Concert Series happens this week. Public Enemy the classic hip hop group featuring the infamous Flavor Flav and the tenacious Chuck D will take the stage for what should be a jam-packed show at Canalside on Thursday, June 23. Public Enemy has been in the news recently as band leader Chuck D has recently formed a supergroup with members of Rage Against the Machine and Cypress Hill, known as Prophets of Rage (named after the song from Public Enemy’s seminal 1987 record, It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back). But the focus at this Canalside show will be on classic cuts from records like It Takes a Nation, Fear of a Black Planet, and Apocalypse 91… The Enemy Strikes Black. Public Enemy’s line up is still impressively intact, with the notable exception of their world renowned DJ Terminator X, who left the group in 1999 (the award winning DJ Lord replaced Terminator X that year and has been the band’s DJ ever since). The Public Choice Battle of the Bands winners Buffalo Afrobeat will open for Public Enemy in addition to rapper Chae Hawk, who will pay a special tribute to Lance Diamond.
