19 Covers/Public School

[PARTY] It’s been 19 weeks since we put out our first issue, which featured a beautiful cover illustration by Craig LaRotonda—an illustration that has come to represent The Public as an idea and a brand. Since then we’ve done our best to choose some of the most intriguing and topical artwork from our region and beyond to adorn the cover of our weekly newspaper. Chuck Tingley’s ethereal figures, Juila Wald’s mixed-media collageMax Collins’s blended photography, and Stacey Robinson’s bombastic multimedia artwork have been some of the highlights. We’re proud of these cover choices and we hope you’ve enjoyed them too.

To celebrate our first 19 issues we’re partnering with the marketing and communications agency, 19 IDEAS, to present an art show featuring our covers—and, as you might guess, we’re calling it 19 Covers. The event will be held this Friday, March 27, at 19 IDEAS’ office space, located at 32 C Essex Street in Buffalo. A selection of cover prints will also be available for purchase. Acropolis, Newbury Street, Curly’s, Martin Cooks, and Ashker’s Juice Bar will provide food and Lockhouse Distillery, Big Ditch Brewing Company, and Hamburg Brewing Company will provide beverages. DJs Sike and Rick Jameson will be on hand to keep the vibe right with some tunes.

Then at 11pm we’re holding an afterparty at Hardware—the third edition of our monthly dance party, Public School. This month we’ve got the fast-rising DJ duo Eyes Everywhere (check out their latest release, No Wifey, out now on Main Course) along with their Cool Dad Records squad in the back room, as well as hip hop and trap DJ, Natron, in the front room.
