[STONER] Jesus Christ and the Hallucinogenic Allstars is a band whose name only opens the door for those willing to listen and believe. The trio calls Saratoga Springs home but is making the trip to Buffalo for a show at Nietzsche’s this Thursday, March 19. If you’re wondering about the origin of the name, bassist/vocalist Dustin Alexander clarified for The Public: “The literal idea is that every important historical figure has been a recreational user of psychotropics. Sherlock Holmes loved morphine and cocaine, Gandhi fasted until he hallucinated, and Moses huffed on a burning bush. But mostly we were high and thought it was funny.” Though the band clearly has a sense of humor, they take their music seriously and serve up a refreshingly heavy blend of metal that could satisfy any fan. “We grew up worshipping Zeppelin, Sabbath, and Tool, but we also pay massive respects to the new guard like Queens of the Stone Age, Mastodon, and Red Fang,” says Alexander. I’m From the Government and I’m Here to Help and Second Trip open the show.
