Torche

[METAL] In the last 20 years guitarist Steve Brooks has created a sludge-metal franchise out of Miami, Florida, flip flopping between his two creations, Floor and Torche. In 1992 he formed the doomy metal band, Floor, which existed off and on—gaining a cult following after a couple of releases on No Idea records—before disbanding in 2003. He quickly turned around and formed a follow-up stoner-metal project, Torche, which has since released a steady stream of punishing yet melodic sludge-metal records including their seminal, loud-as-fuck 2008 release, Meanderthal. In 2013, Brooks announced a surprise Floor reunion and subsequently an album—Oblation—which led Floor on a tour that stopped through Buffalo last year. Now Brooks is pulling double duty as frontman of both Floor and Torche, and in a truly transposing move, has titled Torche’s 2015 album Restarter. The doom-pop album, which Pitchfork called “their most compelling record since Meanderthal,” was released on February 24 by Relapse Records. On Monday, March 23, Torche will present a compendium of work from their decade of existence when they come to Mohawk Place with Philadelphia alt-rock band, Nothing, and Miami’s Wrong, presented by ESI Events and the Tralf.
