[FOLK] Straight out of North Carolina, Mount Moriah, in their latest album How to Dance, takes the nostalgia of Southern art and culture and transforms it into themes of inter-relatedness and universality. The trio’s latest album focuses on these particular topics to inspire hope in the face of a socially stagnant and backward seeming Southern landscape, to find the magic in the idea that the present is built off of these historical traditions but continues to defy them, as well. The band does not mind this sort of complexity in meaning: their layered instrumental sound and image heavy lyrics are intentionally crafted to spur “a wide excavation of buried meaning” on the part of the listener. Babeville’s 9th Ward will host Mount Moriah with blues and folksinger Jake Xerxes Fussel as the opener on Tuesday, November 15.
