Nietzsche's Folkfest

[FOLK] For the second year, Nietzsche’s will celebrate all things folk music with their Folkfest. This year’s headliner is Jonathan Richman, a folk musician who many might know from the proto-new wave band Modern Lovers. For more on him, check out our preview of his show—which is a separately ticketed event. Here, however, we want to highlight a few of the local and regional acts playing this four day festival. Day 1, Wednesday, November 8 features nine bands. If you can only catch one, check out 18 Wheels and a Crowbar—a semi-truck embodied by Americana music. Day 2, Thursday, November 9 features seven bands, with the Observers, one of our favorite local bands here at The Public, taking a primo spot. Day 3, Friday November 10 is maybe the tightest night of music. Don’t miss Ryan Sutherland followed by Dave Brown. Then, the final night, Saturday, November 11 features one of the more unique acts in Upstate New York’s Chris James & Mama G., a self-styled “Ameribeat” band—which they define as Americana music “with a beat you can dance to,” as well as beloved local “scumbag Americana” group Pine Fever.
