Peepshow: Scary-oke

[HALLOWEEN] The first wave of Halloween parties begins this week with Squeaky Wheel’s Peepshow: Scary-oke edition. If it’s not clear from the title, “scary-oke” is basically a Halloween-themed version of karaoke. So start brainstorming your favorite spooky, creepy, fun Halloween-ish songs to belt out drunkly on stage in front of strangers and friends. My personal favorite is Will Smith’s iconic 1987 hit “A Nightmare on My Street,” written with DJ Jazzy Jeff for the A Nightmare on Elm Street 4 soundtrack. This will actually be much deeper than your usual bar karaoke, however, with five themed karaoke rooms designed by local artists. There’ll be a show-tunes room, or the Vamp it Up room as it’s referred to, curated by Holly Johnson; a Not Safe For Werewolves room with black-light face painting by artist Tom Holt; an experimental music karaoke room by Brain Milbrand dubbed White Nose; the Melt & Move room, which will feature psychedelic sounds and visuals from UVB76; and for those of you like myself you can’t sing a note if your lives depended on it, there’s the Robo Room featuring auto-tune from living robot Jeff Mace. Expect DJs Blue Lazer, J Love, and Rick Vallone to spin those karaoke choices all night long, as well as performances by a whole bunch of local artists including  Curtis Lovell & MaDamn Noire, Max Darling, Cersei Lannister, Vidalia May, and more. The annual fundraiser for Squeaky Wheel happens this Saturday, October 21 at the Dnipro Ukrainian Cultural Center. Costumes encouraged.
