[ELECTRONIC] Keys N Krates cannonballed into the pool of hard-hitting electronic music with early tracks like “Treat Me Right” and “Dum Dee Dum,” which have become essential in the trap canon. The Toronto trio, consisting of drummer Adam Tune, David Matisse on synth, and turntablist Jr. Flo formed in 2008 and are signed to Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak label. Since their inception, they’ve released three EPs—Lucid Dreams, SOLOW, and Every Nite—along with handful of remixes. Taking their queue from a slew of electronic sub genres—hip-hop tinged bass, dubstep, trap, and electro—their infectious tracks are hardly the stuff you would expect from a live band, but they pull it off with hard-hitting drums from Tune and triggered live samples and Jr. Flo, an award-winning scratcher who works a certain magic on the decks. The formula translates incredibly well into live performances with a dimension of analog warmth you can’t feel from a typical EDM act. As Matisse revealed in an interview with Republic Nola, “Our favorite thing is playing live and bringing people into our world.”  This Friday, you can experience the dynamism of the triple threat live as they stop in Buffalo to play at Town Ballroom, presented by Funtime and MNM Presents. Swagglerock is set to open.
