[INDIE] Philly’s Mewithoutyou has always been a unique band. From the beginning, the five-piece fell into a certain scene saturated with emo-tinged post-hardcore bands, but they were always a little bit different—philosophically motivated, and wiling to take artistic risks that their colleagues might shy away from. The mostly spoken-word vocals by singer Aaron Weiss is the first thing that sticks out, but a deeper listen reveals spiritual imagery that explores religious, metaphysical, and existential themes from many different perspectives, from Christian to Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, and Sufi. Due for a new record by the end of the year, the indie rock band comes to Mohawk Place for a show on Monday, October 8 with support from Chicago-based indie rock band Joan of Arc.
