Container

[NOISE] Container makes some of the most cutting-edge music on the planet right now. Clearly influenced by experimental noise music, he often works syncopated rhythms into a format—techno—that resists anything stringently exact or precise. His maximal techno takes bulging synths and bombastic beats and typically overlays raining metallic waterfalls, erratic buzzers, and growling mechanical demons in a manner that intersects noise with techno. And it’s all about as loud as a space shuttle launch. Container, real name Ren Schofield, comes from an unexpected place for a noisey techno producer: Nashville, Tennessee. Where his friends were struggling to hold together their Americana bands, Schofield was tossing his 303 across the room in frustration. That was in 2011, before the release of his debut, self-titled LP. Since then he’s perfected his style, releasing a few more records including an official remix of Four Tet’s “Kool FM,” and a new full length this year—also self-titled—leading the way as far as the “technoise” genre goes. A Container set is also very much unlike your typical techno set. His sets are short and to the point—more like punk rock or noise rock sets—and often, as is the case when he comes to Mohawk Place on Monday, September 28, do not take place at what one would imagine as a “typical” techno or house club. Monday’s show, presented by FOUNDRY, will also feature Unicorn Hard-on, Night Slaves, Ay Fast, and VWLS, with visuals by NP & Flatsitter.
