SYML

[POP] In case you’re wondering, SYML is pronounced kind of how you think it would be—like “simmel.” And “Simmel,” means “simple” in welsh, so unlike its intuitive pronunciation, it’s not an acronym, as it appears to be. SYML is Brian Fennell of Seattle, Washington, and he’s a rising pop music act who has put out a handful of releases, including his most recent single, “WDWGILY.” After listening to the haunting pop track, listeners will be able to decrypt “WDWGILY,” which is in fact an acronym that means “where did we go, I love you”—the refrain of the song which channels artists like James Blake and Mount Kimbie with it’s highly effected, stretched and shrunk vocals and ticking electronic sound. Give it a view on Youtube, then head over to Mohawk Place to catch SYML on Sunday, September 16 with Ontario-based avant-folk act Mappe Of.
