[INDIE] Much more intense than the campy 1970s film of the same name, Bloomington’s Murder by Death continue expanding their musical palette on Big Dark Love (Bloodshot)—which says a lot, since the band has always been pushing at the edges of their southern-gothic Americana-core. Three years on (and a Christmas covers set) since Bitter Drink, Bitter Moon, you can clearly hear flourishes of electronica, riff-driven pop, and some psychedelic meandering that makes it clear: This is a band hell-bent on progression.
