[PUNK] Sheer Mag has released two records already this year, and both have been extremely well received. The first was not actually a new record, but a compilation of the band’s first three EPs, and this was slapped with the “Best New Reissue” label from Pitchfork—which is usually reserved for rock icons who re-release groundbreaking that everyone ignored the first time around. But nobody is ignoring Sheer Mag because the band, which formed in Philadelphia only a few years ago has just earlier this summer released their debut LP, Need to Feel Your Love—only after landing spots huge festivals like Coachella, and lighting up Rolling Stone and Pitchfork’s radar. Though it’s relatively short for a 12 track album, at 42 minutes, Need to Feel Your Love gets to the point quickly, with political fits and energetic tinny punk smokers that are filtered through the lens of 1970s glam rock and guided by frontwoman Tina Halladay’s ferocious, pointed vocals. If you’ve been waiting on this debut, you’ll likely be quite happy with the results.
