Big Huge, Uniform (OPR), and Slow Mutants

[INDIE] Continuing New York City’s fine tradition of bands that merge power pop with punk sensibilities, Big Huge is the cure for your late summer blahs. Celebrating the release of Cruel World on the revered Don Giovanni label (August 17), the gritty five-piece comes to Sugar City on Thursday, August 31. And they’ve got a lot to celebrate: the album is a solid stream of engaging pop songs that come across like keyboard-less new wave—a tidal wave of dismissively-delivered, raunchy guitar hooks that’ll have you reaching for the repeat button. Along for the ride are local punk trios Uniform (OPR) from the Peterwalkee stable, and Slow Mutants (with Gutter Pop Comics guy Stephen Floyd, also of Mallwalkers fame). Can’t go wrong here, especially for a mere donation of between $7 and $10. The music gets going at 8:30pm sharp, we’re told, so don’t dally!
