Damon Wayans (Aug 27-29)
[COMEDY] Damon Wayans is a 54-year-old grandfather and still a powerhouse in the stand-up arena. The second oldest of the infamous Wayans family of stars, Damon’s restless artistry ranges from creating, writing and starring in television shows and movies to penning a best-selling book of essays and a novel while dreaming up smart-phone apps. After a yearlong stint on Saturday Night Live, he went on to co-create the seminal, no-holds-barred, sketch-comedy show, In Living Color—where his blisteringly funny characters from Blaine Edwards to Oswald Bates were staples of 1990s television. His early stand up routines were marked by his subversive observations on race and pop culture, underpinned by his high energy and animated impressions. As he zoomed along the “roller coaster of life,” he began folding in jokes about his children and grandchildren. Hint: the difference between entertaining his grandson and granddaughter is flatulence. Catch Damon Wayans at Helium Comedy Club on Thursday, August 27 through Saturday, August 29.
