T-Pain
[HIP HOP] Many folks may have noticed that the original act planned for Thursday, August 18 at Canalside was Coolio, but after a scheduling conflict, Coolio was forced to cancel and was replaced with Florida, based rap star T-Pain. Though Coolio might be the better recognized name, there’s no doubt that most folks would instantly recognize T-Pain’s sometimes ostentatious hits like “I’m N Luv Wit a Stripper” and “I’m Sprung,” which are painted with his signature auto-tuned vocals. Whether you like his style or not, T-Pain is engrained in the fabric of hip hop and pop music and his style has been highly influential on mainstream pop, R&B, and hip hop. T-Pain has been the recipient of 11 Grammy nominations, two of which were wins—Best Rap Song in 2008 for “Good Life,” which appeared on Kanye West’s album Graduation, and Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for “Blame It” from actor/singer Jamie Foxx. His 2011 album, Revolver, featured the likes of Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa, Pitbull, Ne-Yo, and more. Local hip hop band Radarada, a winner of the Public Choice Battle of the Bands, will open the show.
