Body Obstacles

[DANCE] Local area dancers Nancy Hughes and Angela Lopez have teamed up to create six new groundbreaking dance pieces to showcase during the 2015 Buffalo Infringement Festival. The event, Body Obstacles, presents an assortment of fresh modern dance works interconnected with a visual art backdrop. Choreographers Hughes and Lopez focused on creation in dance when coming up with the concepts for these pieces, since they’re both deeply influenced by several movement styles throughout history. Lopez will debut her duet “The New Flesh,” along with “Source Unknown,” a collaboration between her and Ingrid Rymers, combining two solos, one performed right after the other. Hughes is presenting a solo entitled “Frigid Wind“ and will be showing a larger group piece called “Swiftly, We Are Not Where We Once Were,” which will see dancers leaping through the air. Hughes and Lopez will also perform in “The Great Perhaps,” a duet they choreographed together. Additional dancers participating in the performances include Jenee Skinner, Olivia Frank, Priscilla Young-Anker, Monica Karwan, Ilana Lieberman, Lori Brett, Cynthia Cadwell Pegado and Jodi Maracle. The first performance of Body Obstacles takes place Thursday, July 30 and the second performance on Friday, July 31 at 4pm, both housed at the St. John’s Grace Church, upstairs in the Parish Hall.
