[ROCK] Venusian rock gods, Valient Thorr, will grace the Waiting Room next Friday, July 8 for a night of hard rock, heavy metal ,social critique and intergalactic observations. After crash landing on Earth in the 1950s, the Venus space gods, all appropriately taking the sur-name “Thorr,” decided to bide their time as a rock group hailing from North Carolina. Active since 2001, the group warns man-kind of the destruction political propaganda tactics, uncontrolled government spending, human greed and incessant warfare wreaks on planet Earth. A definite shift in concentration is observed in their latest album, Our Own Masters, which was released in 2013 and focuses more on social ills from an insider’s perspective than their out-of-this world origin story. The band seems to have become more comfortable with identifying as struggling, resilient human beings as several of the members have gotten married, started to raise a family or experienced grief from the death of a loved one. Not always so heavy, Valient Thorr also produces hard rock party anthems but it is the combination of social critique and awesome rock that appeals to fans and Thorriors, the Phish heads of the group, alike. The band is set to release an album in late July, the first one in nearly four years. Lucid, Insanity, Inertia, and Squatch open the show.
