Buffalo Pride Week Kick Off

[GAY PRIDE] Buffalo Pride Week kicks off on Tuesday, May 29 with the annual Flag Raising ceremony, hosted by Stonewall Democrats of Western New York and the Pride Center of Western New York. The ceremony will take place at noon at Niagara Square where Mayor Byron Brown and city officials will raise the pride flag. Pride Week continues on Wednesday, May 30 with the Gay 5K. Billed as “the most fabulous race in Buffalo,” the Gay 5k is a staple of Pride Week as hundreds of participants race around Larkinville. It’s not too late to register—registration runs through May 23, then late registration, which will cost you a few bucks more, is open until the day of the race. Prizes will be given out for racers who finish first in a number of categories. The race will begin at the Larkin Filling Station on Seneca Street and proceed down S. Division Street, Michigan Avenue, Clinton Street, Smith Street, and back toward the Filing Station, which will have complimentary beer and burger sliders after the race. The first 350 participants to register will be given an event t-shirt. Pride week will continue with four more official events, Out of Business (Thursday, May 31), the Dyke+ March (Saturday, June 2), the Pride Parade (Sunday, June 3), and Pride Festival (Sunday June 3). More on those events to come in next week’s issue.
