[PUNK] On Saturday, May 23, five local acts—After Hours, Lesionread, Medicine Man Moonshine Orchestra, Painkillers, and Soul Butchers—will come together for a benefit show titled Punks Against Putin, which will be held at the Ukrainian American Civic Center. The show is a benefit that aims to provide medical supplies to the Ukrainian army, specifically the Ukrainian Freedom Foundation. ”The idea came to me after Russia had taken over Crimea and was moving aggressively toward Eastern Ukraine,” says the show’s organizer, Bob Kotas. “Putin’s continuous denial of Russian involvement, the slaying of opposition leader Boris Nemtsov and the Pussy Riot arrests just made it more important to bring attention to the cause.” When asked why he has chosen to rally against Putin, Soul Butchers guitarist Al Uthman had this to say: ”Because he’s a dick. And I’m jealous of his pecs.”
