Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band

[BLUES] Joyfully roaring from the foothills of Southern Indiana, Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band boasts a muscular, rockabilly-blues sound of the bar-stomping variety, capped by growling vocals and lightning-quick finger picking. The three musicians who make up this Big Damn Band include Josh Peyton (aka, the Rev); his wife, Breezy; and drummer, Ben “Bird Dog” Brussell. This year, the trio released an impressive album entitled, So Delicious!. Baptized in the waters of a deep and timeless well of delta blues, these songs play with folk-rockabilly fervor, capturing an innovative energy. The Rev shoulders the lion’s share of vocals, slathering burly lyrics over songs like “Pot Roast and Kisses” an ode to Breezy (and her pot roast recipe) whose washboard adds some texture worthy of a blue ribbon. A rollicking, rural rocker, “Raise A Little Hell” will definitely raise hell live. The Rev gives the strings a fierce workout, churning out some badass riffs, and (as usual) spiking the intensity with his rich, chesty baritone. They’re known for performing with wild abandon, turbo-charging their already fast songs, but never sacrificing instrumental precision. Catch Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band with the Heavenly Chillbillies at The Waiting Room on Saturday, April 25.
