The Grateful Dead Movie

[SCREENING] It’s 4-20 time all across the nation as fans gather at theaters throughout the US on Thursday, April 20 at 7pm for 40th anniversary screenings of The Grateful Dead Movie, a concert film released in 1977 culled from performances during the band’s historic “farewell” run at San Francisco’s Winterland in October 1974 (oh, the best laid plans). But wait, there’s more! The screenings will also feature a never-before-seen mini-documentary about the Dead’s Cornell University gig from May, 1977, featuring new interviews with fans who attended the show. That Cornell gig, one of the Dead’s most storied and celebrated shows, is also the focus of an upcoming 11-disc box set on Rhino, Get Shown the Light. Additionally, an excerpt from the six-part Scorcese documentary Long Strange Trip (which comes to Amazon Prime Video next month after a Sundance premiere earlier this year) will also be shown. Buffalo-area screenings are at the Elmwood Regal 16 in North Buffalo and the Transit Center IMAX in Williamsville.
