[METAL] 17 years on from KillSwitch Engage’s Boston-area beginnings, the recently released Incarnate finds the metalcore band sounding fully committed. 2013’s Disarm the Descent marked the return of original vocalist Jesse Leach, resulting in a tentative feeling disc, but Incarnate sounds sturdier and brims with renewed chemistry. There’s a little something for everyone here—guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz delivers the goods with riffs that’ll scramble your brain, while Justin Foley (drums) and Mike D’Antonio (bass) batten down the hatches. There’s ample shredding and barked lyrics contrasted with tidier vocals and less aggro-meltdown, making for an unusually diverse offering seven albums in. Even if modern metal isn’t your thing, it’s hard to dismiss the precision… and the passion. They’re at Town Ballroom on Sunday, April 17 with Memphis May Fire and 36 Crazyfists.
