[ROCK] Three 7” four-song EPs into their barely two-year time together and Philly quartet Sheer Mag is playing Coachella this year and was been written up in Rolling Stone as one of 2015’s “10 New Artists You Need to Know.” There’s good reason for this: Sheer Mag is the answer to your prayers if you’ve been aching for a band that blends punk and pop without the digital sheen. In other words, this definitely isn’t pop-punk in the emo sense, but rather a fantastic throwback to something closer to early Blondie with a Runaway on vocals (front gal Tina Halladay)—the guitar crunch sits prominently at the forefront of the mix. Sonically scrappy but tuneful and catchy all the same, don’t let the faux-metal logo fool you: Sheer Mag may bear some teeth, but the bite isn’t at all painful. They come to Mohawk Place this Sunday, April 3 with Laffing Gas, Radiation Risks, and Uniform (OPR).
