Acid Mothers Temple
[EXPERIMENTAL] Psychedelic drone rock band Acid Mothers Temple have shifted and morphed through several phases since they formed in Japan in 1995. The band is currently, officially, known as Acid Mothers Temple & the Melting Paraiso U.F.O, but have released records under a mass of alternative names. Led by guitarist Kawabata Makoto, the band shifts persona based on the rest of the line up. At times they’ve famously combined forces with like-minded experimental rock bands to create a sort of mutant siamese twin version of both bands—such was the case for their 2004 release with the classic French prog rock band Gong, their 2005 release in collaboration with fellow Japanese psychedelic rock band Afrirampo, their 2007 collaboration with the German krautrock band Guru Guru, and their 2013 collaboration with both Guru Guru and Gong, released under the name Acid Mothers Guru Guru Gong. The band’s most beloved records, however, were those released between 2001 and 2006, including The New Geocentric World Of.., Electric Heavyland, Does the Cosmic Shepherd Dream of Electric Tapirs, and Have You Seen The Other Side of the Sky. Live, their cosmic, hynotic experimental rock music is intense and transcendent in the best possible ways. Acid Mothers Temple comes to Mohawk Place on Saturday, April 2 with support from Ann Arbor, Michigan freaks Mounds.
