[ROCK] Don’t let the name fool you: Yes, there’s definitely a playful element to Diarrhea Planet’s guitar barrage—22 strings in all— but the Nashville five-piece’s second full length, 2013’s I’m Rich Beyond Your Wildest Dreams revealed a surprisingly sensitive side. Scratching below the surface of the progressive-guitar-pop-by-way-of-metal-influences that sonically characterizes DP, we find songs that ponder the resounding “now what??” that comes with moving beyond the comfort of a collegiate haze into the bummer reality of adulthood. It’s no wonder that they’ve been repeatedly asked back to festivals and have a following that fills clubs from coast-to-coast: the songwriting appeals to a broad cross-section while the intensity of the guitar work is evidence that DP actually intends to drop something solid on the world.
