[ROCK] When life closes a door it opens a window, and SomeKindaWonderful happens. After a failed record deal with Interscope, Jordy Towers wound up at a townie bar in Olmsted Falls, Ohio, where he met Matt Gibson (guitarist) and Ben Schigel (drummer). In drunken, rock-and-roll fashion, they jammed out to “Reverse”—the tune that would soon become their first single. Behind a noir, St. Vincent-esque wall of sound, Towers tells a backwards tale of infidelity through a seething chorus—a suitable introduction to an equally powerful self-titled debut album. With one finger on the pulse of classic R&B and 1970s rock, another throbs with a modern indie-pop sound. Catch SomeKindaWonderful at The Waiting Room on Friday, March 20.
