Grace Stumberg

[FOLK] If you’ve been to see Joan Baez in the last few years, you’ve likely been impressed with the gal singing harmony. Though she still sounds vocally strong and quite recognizable in her mid-70s, Baez has employed a young lady from Buffalo as backup singer (as well as personal assistant, which is the role she was originally hired for) to thicken her live sound. Grace Stumberg throws some gospel-inflected soul into the Baez mix, sweetening her neo-traditional Americana with unexpected tweaks that make her an asset.  On her own, Stumberg is a capable vocalist and songwriter who melds elements of pop, soul, and folk with pleasing, listener-friendly results. Downstairs at Babeville’s 9th Ward on Saturday, March 11, Stumberg will celebrate the release of her new all-acoustic CD, which is her fourth—the title remains a mystery. Fellow local singer-songwriter Tina Williams opens.
