Dopapod with Moon Hooch

[JAM] You could argue that just about nobody in the jam scene has made a quicker ascent than Dopapod who got their start in the Northeast. The band has grown from a support act themselves to a festival must-see and headliner in a very short amount of time. They are a group of road-tested musicians with chops that can keep pace with anyone in the scene and they’re experts in blending various genres like most jam acts. When they come to The Tralf on Thursday, February 26, the show will also feature up-and-coming band, Moon Hooch—who bring their own unique sound as well. In Sax player and vocalist, Michael Wilbur, describes their blend of styles. ”I feel that our music is a combination of energetic expression (without borders) and intellectual structures learned from studying complex music. The result is a very high energy, kind of insane dance music that we were later to call “cave music.” We call it cave music because it’s like house, but it’s more wild, free and natural to live in.” The members of Moon Hooch met while attending the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, and they leverage their musical intelligence to bring it all together. “In our new album we incorporated the electronic production that Wenzl [McGowen] and I have been heavily focusing on in the past two years,” says Wilbur. ”Our live show has become something much more intricate than two saxophones and a drum set. We use Ableton Live to manipulate our live sounds with digital effects. On our album we added that electronic spice with some vocal flaps.” Make no mistake that if there’s anywhere to be Thursday night, it will be at The Tralf to kick start your weekend.
