[ROCK] If the Butthole Surfers and Cheap Trick bore a love child, it would probably sound something like The Afterbirth Tycoon on their new EP, Purgatory on Parade. “It’s always tough to describe for me,” says drummer Joe Peluso. “I think the Butthole Surfers/Cheap trick comparison is really good. We’re definitely influenced a lot by those guys. Tom Waits, too. And a lot of those old Mississippi Blues guys, like T-Model Ford, Junior Kimbrough, and Son House.”

The band has existed on and off in different forms since as early as 1998, but came into their current incarnation—featuring Jason Pitcher, Rob Barnette, and Peluso—in 2013. They’ll play an EP release party for Purgatory on Parade on Friday, February 27 at Mohawk Place with support from psychedelic rock wanderers Second Trip and rust punkers ronaldraygun.
