[INDIE] Several years ago, NPR launched a series of live video performances by well known bands in intimate spaces that they called Tiny Desk Concerts (presumably because you’d likely be watching or listening to the concert while at your desk at work). These Tiny Desk Concerts came from artists like Neko Case, Yo La Tengo, Run the Jewels, Weird Al Yankovic, and many more. A couple of years ago, NPR decided to open up this opportunity to unsigned, independent artists from all over the country. Many local music acts enter the contest and for the last couple of years, Mohawk Place has been hosting a showcase of a selection those who have entered. This year’s line up includes 16 Buffalo-based acts, maybe too many to name here, but that’s just a fraction of those who have entered (to see the full list, click here). Our suggestion: Check out Mohawk’s Tiny Desk Concert showcase, this Wednesday, March 1, and keep a look out for these local bands in NPR’s weekly contest. And if you see one of them, vote for them!
