Remember India Cummings

[RALLY] Two years ago, a young Lackawanna woman being held in the holding center was transported to ECMC in cardiac arrest with a broken arm, broken ribs, a blood clot in her leg that required amputation, and in a state of severe dehydration. Four days later, India Cummings was dead, a case eerily similar to Richard Metcalf’s suspicious death in the same prison in 2012. Cummings’ autopsy was inconclusive, but that hasn’t stopped her case from becoming a call for action for local organizers seeking criminal justice reforms. This Wednesday, the WNY Peace Center is holding a rally outside of the Erie County Holding Center calling for accountability and reform, who say they are “outraged at the callous disregard for this young woman’s life.”
