Geoff Tate

[METAL] Though no longer in the band, Geoff Tate and Queensrÿche are basically synonomous. The now 58-year-old vocalist was at the helm of the progressive metal band’s seminal album, Operation: Mindcrime—their third studio album, released in 1988. They continued to release notable albums with Tate until his split with the band in 2012. Since then he’s lead a few related projects including Queensrÿche Featuring Geoff Tate (after the contentious split, Tate attempted to commandeer the band’s name and for a short period of time there were two bands called Queensrÿche). That band eventually changed their name to Operation: Mindcrime, but on Tate’s latest tour he’s billed as simply Geoff Tate. Though it’s a solo acoustic tour, Tate actually has a seven-piece acoustic band of musicians on stage with him—guitar players, mandolin, cello, saxophone, violin and multiple percussion instruments—an orchestra of sorts, which will deliver acoustic versions of the heavy metal band’s many hits. Tate comes to the Rapids Theater for his “The Whole Story ‘Ryche’ Acoustic Tour” on Friday, February 17 with support from Turning Virtue.
