For those of you who couldn’t care less about Star Wars and are instead wondering which of the award-season movies you’ll be able to see locally beginning this holiday weekend, the much-adjusted menu has finally boiled down to The Danish Girl, Carol, The Big Short, Concussion, and Joy. (You also have the option of Daddy’s Boys and Point Break, both highly unlikely to appear on any nominations lists.) You’ll have to wait until New Year’s Eve for Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight, unless you want to trek up to Toronto (where you have the option of seeing it in 70mm). You’ll still be able to see Brooklyn and Spotlight, but you only have until Christmas Eve to check out Trumbo and Macbeth. And if you need any help deciding, yours truly will opine about most of these in this week’s issue.
