The Public’s weekly local music reviews and previews.

 Album:  Phantom Phuzz by Cooler

Recommended if you like:  Cursive, Weezer, Sunny Day Real Estate

Alternative rock band Cooler has just released their new album, Phantom Phuzz, on Admirable Traits records. Slo-mo album opener “Pave Age” sets the pace for the low-key indie rock tracks that wander from emo influenced rock to borderline grunge.

Album:  7 Songs by honey COMA

Recommended if you like:  Pedro the Lion, The Promise Ring, Texas is the Reason

The debut release from self proclaimed “slowcore sad rockers” honey Coma is a concise seven song record. The trio, Norelle Christiani, Tom Burtless, and Bryan Johnson run through discordant indie rock that ranges from the introspective (“Perception,” “Passed Out”) to the angry (“Self Hate”) and dramatic (“The Argument”).
